Reading Skills, Water for Elephants
By: Sara Gruen

Now, Jacob likes one of the woman that is in the cirus, Marlena. Shes gutsy, beautiful, really pretty for a woman in the 1930's, ran away from home as a teenager, married a guy named August, and then joined the circus. Jacob and Marlena end up kissing but he doesn't know if August knows. August would most likly try to kill Jacob if he found out. Marlena controls the relationship a lot throughout the book and is the leader and decides what happens, since she is amrried to August but still likes Jacob, Jacob is confused on what he and her will do in the future!
Will Jacob be able to get the girl of his dreams? Will August ever find out about the kiss that has taken place? Does Marlena love Jacob more than she loves August? These are all of the unanswered questions that I really hope are answered soon!!
One text to self I made while reading throughout was the fact that I have tasted the food at those cafeterias and I must agree that it is not the best food in the world! Another text to text connection is that this book reminds me of the movie Dumbo with the cirus features and the elephants. A text to world connection is that there are not many circuses left and I would love to be able to go to one but have not seen one in Mason. There is a website that lists the Mason clowns and amusement talent providers of Cincinnati. I would like to some how be able to go to see what Jacobs everyday life was like to see if I could be able to connect with him or not.
Have you seen the movie for this? Which do you think is better the book or the movie becasue i have seen the movie and dont no if I should read the book too?
